The Harbor Shop
100 Bay St., Sausalito CA 94965 415-331-6008
Website is here. The items offered for sale online are a small subset of what they carry in their store.
Fast Forward SummaryTM: There are a lot of gift and clothing stores in Sausalito, especially ones with Sausalito-branded merchandise. A handful of these places have unique items at reasonable prices, and we're happy to say that The Harbor Shop is one of them. They even have coffee and convenience snacks that they sell in the back (which is the view side by the Bay), and little upholstered benches where you can sit, sip and look out the window at the boats in the Sausalito Yacht Harbor as you take a break. Cool gifts for adults and children, and not the same items you see everywhere else in town.
Note re Location: Google Maps understandably gets confused with addresses that are located on piers, etc. because they may refer to the nearest (and only) street, which may be a ways away from the actual location since there is no street there, just water. Yacht harbors also look like land when they're really mostly water, which makes it fun to compare the map and satellite views. The Harbor Shop is actually about 50 yards closer to the pier and water than the Google Map below shows, and a full block towards the water from Bridgeway instead of mid-block. If you walk down Bay St. one block from Bridgeway it will be easy to find just across the street to your left as you reach the water, with big boats behind it and to its left.
The Harbor Shop: The Details
If you wander along the Sausalito waterfront north of the Ferry you'll reach this place about two blocks from the ferry pier, perched on the edge of the Bay right at the entrance to the Sausalito Yacht Harbor.
Here are some of the items that led us to make The Harbor Shop the subject of our next article about Shopping in Sausalito:
Some fun nautical-theme gifts for kids and adults, ones we haven't seen elsewhere.
A lot of merchandise bearing the name "Sausalito" that was better-made and lower-priced than at many local shops, especially those in the downtown area. We saw some very nice windbreakers at good prices, and sweatshirts and sweaters as well. There were different art styles in the Sausalito theme, so visitors have a greater variety of choices when looking for something to wear here and then take home proudly. Both adults and kids sizes.
A great selection of books about Sausalito, plus a picture storybook for kids. They even have the Sausalito Women's Club "Cooking with a View" cookbook!
There are some more expensive items (especially specialty items for the people who keep their sailboats in the adjacent harbor).
On our most recent visit the sales lady was very pleasant and considerate with us, and went out of her way to try to make sure we had a good shopping experience.
Secret Spot: If you've been walking around the waterfront, need to sit down for a while and don't want to go have a meal in a restaurant, check out the back of The Harbor Shop. They have little upholstered benches to sit on, and they sell coffee, bottled water and sodas, and little snack packets to recharge you for your journey. And since the window in that back nook looks out at the harbor and the Bay, it's a lovely place to sit for a few minutes!
Google Map Instructions: Use the "+" and "-" buttons to zoom in and out, the arrow keys to scroll the map, and the SAT button to see the satellite view.
