Our readers know that we like to write our own stories with our own take on events and places and people, and we don't just re-publish press releases.
In this case we're going to make an exception, because just about everything the ICB Artists do is clever and intriguing, and that extends to their writing as well. We would no more rewrite these words than we would alter one of their artists' paintings. So here's their announcement (edited slightly for length):
"Dismantle. Decompose. Distress. Rearrange. Sometimes it matters more what’s left behind than what was there in the beginning. Gallery 111 in Sausalito, California challenged Northern California artists to express their visions and interpretations of deconstruction. The competition was judged by Timothy Berry, a highly respected Bay Area artist. The works of twelve artists made the cut, and will be featured in a gallery show.
"According to Berry, 'The artists’ interpretations of deconstruction were thought provoking, and cleverly conceived. I think visitors to the show are in for some surprises.' Berry has been an active and accomplished artist for over 30 years. His paintings, drawings, and prints have been exhibited extensively in museums and galleries throughout the United States and Europe. He is presently on the faculty of San Francisco Art Institute and the University of California at Davis."
Over 100 artists have their studios within the ICB (Industrial Center Building) in Sausalito, making it one of the largest artist centers in the United States. Their work covers a wide range of media, including painting, sculpture, photography, textile arts, jewelry design, and printmaking.
