2017 Sausalito Herring Celebration
Date: Sunday January 29, 2017
Place: Bay Model, Sausalito CA 94965 (See map below)
Time: Film shows at 11:00 AM and 2:30 PM, making it an after-herring or before-herring choice!
Cost: $40 per person in advance, and include the screening, filmmaker talk and sherring lunch from Angelino, Davey Jones Deli, Fish, Joinery, and Osteria Divino. Fort Point Brew Co. and Dry Creek Vineyards are providing accompaniments. The herring were extremely cooperative and showed up on time this year!
The herring run off the shores of Sausalito (and its neighbors) is the last commercial fishery in San Francisco Bay, so each year we’ve celebrated at the Sausalito Herring Festival, to benefit the Sausalito Community Boating Center, located at Cass Gidley Marina, a non-profit providing affordable access to boats and boating, and which seeks to preserve local maritime history and the environment around San Francisco Bay.
The 2017 SCBC Herring Celebration represents a re-naming of the event, and is going to be different from recent years. The event moves from Gabrielson Park, its long-time home, a few blocks north to the Bay Model. The centerpiece of the Celebration will be a showing of Of The Sea, an award-winning film about the current world of local fishermen and sustainable seafood production, by filmmaker Mischa Hedges.
They’ll also have a presentation and discussion with the filmmakers, a brief update on the SCBC at Cass Gidley Marina project.
The work of San Francisco artist Brian Andrews is currently being exhibited at the Bay Model, and he will be present for the event.
This 2017 SCBC Herring Celebration raises funds to support Phase I of the renovation of the SCBC site at Cass Gidley Marina. Work is expected to start in Spring of this year.
