Sausalito Hotels: Best Value for Money
Two choices jumped out as offering the best value for the money based on our best hotel consumer opinion survey and hotel price survey for Summer, 2009:
Hotel Sausalito -- Ranked near the top of our consumer surveys behind the super-premium Inn Above Tide, Hotel Sausalito is located right by the Ferry in the heart of downtown Sausalito. Nevertheless, it's significantly less expensive than its rival The Gables Inn.
Larkspur Hotel just north of Sausalito in Mill Valley (formerly the Holiday Inn Express), is a favorite home for visiting film crews, to whom they cater as a specialty. This hotel on Highway 101, right next to the hiking and bike path that leads down the shore to Sausalito, has weekend prices that are only about $15 below the downtown Sausalito hotels -- not necessarily enough to make up for the inconvenience. But on weekdays this summer you can save $30 to $40 per night by staying here, just a little farther away from downtown Sausalito.
If the Economy has you on a really tight budget and you're looking for a motel rather than a hotel, we'd recommend The TravelLodge in Mill Valley. None of the local choices are good compared to the listed hotels, but the TravelLodge is priced the same or lower than similar places that are more run-down and less attractive.
Always do check Internet travel sites for discounts and special deals, because those "specials" may get you into a high-end or mid-level hotel in downtown Sausalito for less money than you'd expect.
