The Sausalito Art Festival is a public spectacle, bringing artists and musicians from all over the world to Sausalito, in turn drawing massive crowds of visitors.
By way of contrast, the ICB Open Studios are an intimate soiree, with almost a hundred local artists inviting people into the private studios in the ICB Building in northern Sausalito. (See video below.)
The Winter Open Studios gives visitors a chance to walk the hallways and wander through the studios of a tremendously diverse group of artists in virtually every medium, from painting to sculpture, textiles to printmaking, jewelry to photography.
The artists' work also represents a wide variety of price ranges, so "real people" can find something for their home or a Holiday gift.
Our most memorable purchases in Sausalito have been when we met the Artist and got to know the person who went with the painting or the necklace or the photograph.
This year's event will be bittersweet, since the ICB community lost long-time member and pioneering female artist Frances Galli this year at age 92. A special exhibit by the artists, open during the event, honors Galli, and received a great writeup in the IJ.
