A Rare Floating Home with Abundant Space to
Live, Work and Entertain in Style
Sausalito houseboats are famous for their charm. You’re rocked to sleep by gentle waves on San Francisco Bay, and awaken to the sounds of sea birds and water lapping at the sturdy wooden docks.
But many floating homes have limited space, requiring trade-offs for families moving from traditional houses. That’s why Sausalito floating home specialist Michele Affronte is excited to share this new listing, which offers that rare combination of charm and spaciousness.
Even the kitchen feels like it’s part of a large, land-locked house. Family and friends can cook together, a lifestyle precluded by the narrow galleys found in smaller homes.
The sellers have owned this 2,600+ square-foot houseboat for 40 years, maintaining and upgrading it continually during that time. Unlike some large structures, its design masks its size and fits the visual scale of the surrounding properties.
Many prime features that are often missing in floating homes are present here (see slide show for detailed photos):
Oversized windows with views of the Bay and Mt. Tamalpais
Soaring open-beam ceiling with skylights
Hardwood floors in the great room, with plenty of wall space for a home theater system
Granite kitchen countertops with breakfast bar
Large primary sink, plus a strategically-located bar sink in expansive kitchen, with multiple convenient electrical outlets
Beautifully upgraded modern bathrooms
Custom high-end lighting system
Solar powered (generator included)
Large home office
Laundry room with side-by-side washer and dryer
Potential for addition of roof deck
Private dock for outdoor dining and kayaking
As a long-time resident of the neighborhood, Michele understands the warm and supportive culture of Sausalito’s houseboat community, and the reasons why so many people settle here. She’ll be happy to answer any questions you may have about this exciting and fulfilling lifestyle.

This beautiful Floating Home is berthed in the heart of Sausalito’s famous houseboat community, just north of San Francisco and the Golden Gate Bridge in Marin County, California.
60 years ago this neighborhood is where movie star Sterling Hayden held his version of the Paris salons of Gertrude Stein, Ernest Hemingway, Pablo Picasso and F. Scott Fitzgerald. Today the neighborhood is a fascinating mix of people, from artists to entrepreneurs, and from pilots to interior designers.
This is the same neighborhood where Otis Redding wrote the classic song, “Sittin’ on the Dock of the Bay” in 1967, making this one of the most prestigious Houseboat addresses in the world.
A small store, a deli that’s been featured on TV restaurant shows, and a highly-rated casual restaurant are just a block or two away. A bus stop on several main transit routes is also nearby, and a shopping center and regional transit hub for bus service are located several blocks away.
Just a few yards from the entrance to East Dock lies the Mill Valley-Sausalito Multi-Use Path. To the north your bike ride leads to the trails of Mt. Tamalpais. To the south you can ride across the Golden Gate Bridge to San Francisco.
A few blocks to the south are a supermarket, the post office, an art gallery supported by over 100 local artists, and a wide range of coffee shops, diners and restaurants including American, Chinese, Himalayan, Indian, Mexican, Middle Eastern and Pizza.
