Heath Ceramics makes high-end tableware and tiles, starting from very basic raw materials: in effect, they even make their own "clay" if you think of it the way we do as consumers. The weekend factory tours give you the chance to see the process from start to finish, and give you a much deeper appreciation for what goes into creating that bowl that sits on the shelf or the table.
The ceramics themselves can be expensive, even in this factory store, but there are seconds and sales shelves that still hold what (to us) are great-looking items.
So don't think of this as some kind of boring field trip. If you have any interest in ceramics the tour should be a great part of a visit to Sausalito.
