Why My Family Has Been in this Area for Five Generations

Why has our family stayed in this area since 1905? The answer may sound like a marketing piece — I admit I’m passionate about Sausalito — but the explanation is actually very personal.
What if there were a town that felt like the best of California? Great views, moderate weather and the scent of saltwater breezes. Close enough to San Francisco to be convenient, far away enough to still feel like a small town. You could get there on one of the top-rated ferry routes in the world… or you could just ride your bike or drive.
There’d be an incredible range of restaurants from different cuisines, with great choices for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Everything from custom sandwiches at a deli counter to signature dishes from award winning chefs. For visitors, there’d be hotels with views of the water located in  the heart of town.
And if you lived in this California town, you’d feel a sense of gravitas and history. An artist’s colony that goes back for generations and isn’t just a theme-park show. Neighborhoods that date back almost 150 years, with stories of famous songs and the musicians who sang them. Popular writers and influential philosophers. Oh, and busboys who became movie stars, a madam who became Mayor, and a bartender who was already a gangster on the run.
Now you know why my family members have kept coming back here for generations. If you visit Sausalito you may start a tradition of your own!
