Mick Fleetwood Speaks Out to Save the Plant Studios in Sausalito
In 1972 the third location of a new kind of recording studio called The Record Plant was founded here in Sausalito. Later renamed The Plant Studios, the facility at 2200 Bridgeway closed last year after almost four decades hosting artists from Andrea Bocelli to Metallica, and from Santana to Carrie Underwood. Now a non-profit foundation called Artsboretum is trying to preserve the vacant building as an incubation space for music and musicians.
Fleetwood Mac recorded Rumours here, which was released in 1977 and has sold over 40 million copies. On a recent trip to California Mick Fleetwood dropped by to visit the place where they became a super-band, and was horrified to find it shuttered. Here's the video he recorded in support of its preservation:

"The rich music legacy contained in these walls is awe-inspiring and worthy of preservation," says Mari Tamburo, independent music artist and founder of the non-profit Artsboretum. "If just a small fraction of the people whose lives have been touched by the music created here donated at least one dollar to our cause we would have more than enough funding to preserve this building and jumpstart our non-profit programming.“
You can contact Artsboretum to make donations.
