SF Marathon Will Impact Golden Gate Bridge Traffic Sunday

Have an early flight out of SFO on Sunday?

The San Francisco Marathon will impact traffic on the Golden Gate Bridge on Sunday morning, July 29, 2012.
The impact will be greatest from 6:00 AM to 10:00 AM, when three traffic lanes will be closed to accomodate the runners, with two southbound and one northbound lane remaining open.  You can find the course map here, and a less detailed, easier to read version here.

Here's a summary of how this event will all work.

From 1:00 AM to 6:00 AM the Bridge crews and CalTrans will change the lane configurations on the Bridge, Doyle Drive and the northern end of Park Presidio for the Marathon.  This shouldn't impact traffic too badly due to the late hour unless you have an early flight and are trying to get to SFO, in which case you need to allow extra time.  There will be a buffer lane between the traffic and the two lanes used by the runners.

The parking lots and Vista Point will be closed from 12:00 Midnight to 10:00 AM. You will not be able to drop people off near the Bridge during this time.

The full list of Midnight – 10:00 AM closures, as provided to us by the Golden Gate Bridge Highway and Transportation District is as follows:

—  Last northbound San Francisco exit off Doyle Drive northbound, just before the toll plaza.

—  Southeast Visitor parking lot

—  First southbound exit right after the toll plaza to 25th Avenue/Merchant Road.

—  Vista Point exit (northeast end of the Bridge) to the Vista Point parking lot.

Also closed from 3:00 AM to 10:00 AM:  Parking lot at northwest end of the Bridge (off Conzelman Road, called the Dillingham lot).

Although the Bridge sidewalks will remain open, the Bridge District is recommending that people wait till after 10:00 AM to walk or bike across the Bridge because all the road closures in the area will make access a hassle.

Bus service:  There will be no service from 1:15 AM to 10:00 AM at the northbound bus stop on the east side of the Golden Gate Bridge toll plaza, and Muni will not serve the Southeast Visitor Parking lot from Midnight to 10:00 AM.

PresidiGO buses will follow their normal schedule.

The following roads will be closed in the Presidio and in the GGNRA:

—  12:00 Midnight to 10:00 AM  There will be no access to the Golden Gate Bridge through the Presidio.

—  4:30 AM to 10:00 AM: Lincoln Blvd. and all intersections onto Lincoln Blvd. from the 25th Ave. Gate to Lendrum Ct. will be closed.  Residents of Baker Beach may enter the area via the service road from Battery Caulfield to reach their homes.  Intermittent traffic will be allowed to provide access to Baker Ct. and Brooks Ct. from Lincoln Blvd.

—  4:30 AM to 10:00 AM: Mason St. and all intersections onto Mason St. will be closed from the Marina Gate to Crissy Field Ave.

—  4:30 AM to 10:00 AM, Crissy Field Ave. will be closed.
