Heath Ceramics Factory Tour Hours: Saturday and Sunday mornings at 11:00 AM. (Currently suspended for Covid)
Note: On very rainy days (not light rain days) when there are high tides, Gate 5 Road floods in the area near Heath Ceramics. If you approach Gate Five Road via Harbor Drive on a rainy day you’ll be able to see if there’s flooding, there, and it’s easy to turn around if there’s an issue. This issue only happens about 2-5 days a year, so it’s unlikely you’ll encounter it.
Heath Ceramics makes high-end tableware and tiles, starting from very basic raw materials: in effect, they even make their own “clay” if you think of it the way we do as consumers. The weekend factory tours give you the chance to see the process from start to finish, and give you a much deeper appreciation for what goes into creating that bowl that sits on the shelf or the table.
The Heath Ceramics pieces themselves can be expensive, even in this factory store, but there are seconds and sales shelves that still hold great-looking items.
If you have any interest in ceramics the tour should be a great part of a visit to Sausalito.
