Almost every restaurant in Sausalito is within two blocks on either side of Bridgeway, the main street that runs along the edge of the Bay. We list them by those five regions below, running from North to South. The satellite photo includes the number for each area. Restaurants that we have reviewed are indicated with " Sea Lions" (for dinner places) or "
Elephants" (for breakfast and lunch spots).
To the North: Mill Valley Border & Marin City

Region 1: Marinship
The northern section of Sausalito, where the Marinship Shipyards were located that built hundreds of merchant marine vessels for the war effort in World War II. Some of the old shipyard buildings have now been converted to offices. Runs from the northern edge of the city down to where Bridgeway narrows from four lanes wide to two lanes wide at Napa St.

The seven-block long section of Sausalito just north of downtown normally thought of as being "for local people, not visitors." Less crowded than downtown, especially during the summer and on holidays. Runs along Bridgeway and Caledonia Streets between Napa St. in the North (where Bridgeway narrows from two lanes each way to one lane) and where "The Hill" meets Bridgeway next to the Taste of Rome cafe on the south.

The southern portion of downtown Sausalito, where there are few buildings between Bridgeway and the Bay and the views of San Francisco and Angel Island are so striking. Stretches from Princess St. in the North to the curve where Bridgeway turns away from the Bay at Richardson St. in the south.

Region 5: Old Town and Fort Baker
Also nicknamed "Hurricane Gulch" for its afternoon winds, Old Town is the original area of the town of Sausalito. This neighborhood extends just a few blocks from Richardson St. down to South St. What we normally think of as Bridgeway changes its name several times at the southern edge of town, and the section in this neighborhood is actually Second Street. We also include the Fort Baker area (just south of town) in this region.
