This beautiful Floating Home is berthed in the heart of Sausalito’s famous houseboat community, just north of San Francisco and the Golden Gate Bridge in Marin County, California.
60 years ago this neighborhood is where movie star Sterling Hayden held his version of the Paris salons of Gertrude Stein, Ernest Hemingway, Pablo Picasso and F. Scott Fitzgerald. Today the neighborhood is a fascinating mix of people, from artists to entrepreneurs, and from pilots to interior designers.
This is the same neighborhood where Otis Redding wrote the classic song “Sitting on the Dock of the Bay” in 1967, one of the most prestigious Houseboat addresses in the world. A San Francisco Chronicle wroter’s book says that Redding was living just two piers north of this floating home at the time.
A small store, a deli that’s been featured on TV restaurant shows, and a highly-rated casual restaurant are just a block or two away. A bus stop on several main transit routes is also a couple of blocks away, and a regional transit hub for bus service is located several blocks away.
A few blocks away are a supermarket, the post office, an art gallery supported by over 100 local artists, and a wide range of coffee shops, diners and restaurants including American, Chinese, Himalayan, Indian, Mexican, Middle Eastern and Pizza.
