Going to a beach on the lee shore inside the Bay is not the same as going to a beach on the coast, where waves pound in at the calmest of times. When the beach is sheltered inside the protective walls of a marina the waters are even calmer. If you're looking for that kind of calm-water white-sand beach experience, Schoonmaker Beach is a fabulous spot without the long drive out to the coast.
This is an especially popular place for families with little kids, since the gentle Bay waters are perfect for shallow water play in the sand.
Schoonmaker Beach is also a popular launch point for kayakers and paddle boarders.
All organized group activities here require permits from the Sausalito Department of Parks and Rec.
