We have only one source on this (hence the "rumor" label), but we hear that the legendary San Francisco rock group Quicksilver Messenger Service will be headliners at the 2009 Sausalito Art Festival on September 7. They last played the Festival in 2007 (see video below).
Contemporaries of the Grateful Dead and Jefferson Airplane (later Jefferson Starship), Quicksilver is widekly credited as one of the most influential bands in the development of the trademark San Francisco Sound. Like Jimi Hendrix, the 1967 Monterey Pop Festival was a key moment in their transition from a local to a global band. Two of the original members, Gary Duncan and David Freiberg (also a Jefferson Airplane alumnus), survive and remain part of the band.
We'll keep you posted on whether we can confirm these rumors and make it official. Here are two videos of Quicksilver, one an excerpt from their Sausalito Art Festival show in 2007 and the other from that famous Monterey Pop Festival.
