Sausalito Art Festival Music for 2009

There's only one way to say it: they really got it right this year.  The Sausalito Art Festival music lineup for 2009 is heavily focused on local bands, and closes with a 40th Anniversary of Woodstock Tribute, featuring top San Francisco musicians who performed at the seminal music festival.

A certain Editor here who is old enough to remember the Summer of Love and the scene in Vina Del Mar Park has been babbling about his show tickets for weeks now.  If he shows up in the office in tie-dye, beads and flowers we'll have to call his family and ask for help.

Main Stage

Saturday, Sept. 5:

11:00-11:45 – The Edge (reggae rock)
12:15 – 1:45 - The English Beat ("Save it for Later")
  2:30 – 3:45 – Tainted Love (hits from the 80s)
  4:30 – 6:00 – Night Ranger (rock)

  2:00 – 3:30 – The Fabulous Thunderbirds (Texas Blues)
4:15 – 5:45 – Johnny Winter (blues rock, also performed at Woodstock)

Monday, Sept. 7:
Heroes of Woodstock 40th Anniversary Tribute with San Francisco Rock performers from Woodstock (hosted by Country Joe McDonald, who will also perform between sets)

Artist Stage

Many of these artists and bands have national and international credits, but are based here in Sausalito or points nearby.  If you're not familiar with the Sausalito music scene this is a great introduction.

Saturday, Sept. 5:

11:00-  1:00 – Volker Strifler (americana/roots/blues)
1:30-  3:30 – David Landon (original rockin' blues)

12:15-  1:00 – Artist Awards
  1:30-  3:30 – JL Stiles (indie folk & blues)
  4:00-  6:00 – Mark Keller and the Pick-ups

Monday, Sept. 7:

11:00-12:00 – The Artifacts (swinging electric harmonies)
12:30-  2:30 – Lorin Rowan and Friends (shared bills with major Woodstock bands)
  3:00-  5:00 – Wild Catahoulas (cajun/zydeco)

Children's Area

A wide range of fun activities will be presented in the Children’s Area, including the return of Benny & Bebe’s Magic Circus Family Show; music by the award-winning children’s recording artist Tim Cain (whom adults will also remember as a co-founder of the classic local band The Sons of Champlin); ‘til Dawn, a 14-piece a cappella group of teens from Marin County high schools; Marshall Magoon, a modern master of the art of magic; and Let’s Go Green, which makes “going green” fun for a whole new generation of children.
