The Artists: Jewels of the Playa: The Photography, Art and Fashion of Burning Man features the work of three creative visionaries, each a master of their discipline:
- Photography by Burning Man artist and visual historian Eleanor Preger,
- Art created by Laura Kimpton (multi-award winning Burning Man Honorarium recipient), and…
- Fabulous Playa fashions from innovative local designer Rebecca Bruce.
If you haven’t made the trek to the Black Rock Desert in person (and then spent the following weeks removing corrosive alkaline dust from said person, your clothing and especially your vehicle) you now have a chance to experience wonderful highlights of the Burning Man event in in downtown Sausalito. And, for this version of the Jewels of the Playa, you get to skip the alkaline dust part and using two gallons of vinegar for two days of clean-up, too!
Kidding aside, there’s a reason that some of my friends pack up for the Burning Man Festival at “Black Rock City” every year and happily deal with the hassles. Amazing art installations with unique experiences. Interesting people and even more interesting fashion. And vistas that can only be created by the cooperative work of thousands of imaginative people.
“With Jewels of the Playa: the Photography, Art & Fashion of Burning Man,” the new Sausalito Center for the Arts shares and celebrates this unique experience, and does it right near the Sausalito ferry pier and the major Sausalito parking lots. And the event will give you a great introduction to this amazing new community center for Sausalito and the Bay Area.
