Dogs: The City has asked that dog owners not bring their dogs to this event, since it’s not in a park and there will be so many people. Some may howl (sic) about this, but Sausalito is very pro-dog for most events and this is a special case due to the logistics.
After years where all the major Sausalito events were held closer to the downtown ferry pier, the Toast to Sausalito Festival each October on Caledonia St. has returned a major celebration to “the secret street where the locals like to go.” (Shhhhhh… Don’t tell anyone I shared this.)
“A Toast to Sausalito” features live local bands on three stages, bringing back memories of the old Caledonia Street Spring Faire, another joyous day on our secret street (the one I didn’t tell you about). The Street Faire flourished for years until it ceased to become a secret and… I mean, it’s so secret that Sausalito officially erased the street from its maps for 20 years so no one else could find it (true story!). But that’s what I shouldn’t be talking about. Should be nice weather for the event. Uhhh… Look, a puppy!
More than 50 breweries, wineries, and spirit distilleries will showcase their finest wares, with visitors buying tasting tickets that included a commemorative glass. Artists will compete in a variety of disciplines, from sidewalk chalk masterpieces to a cardboard cut-up contest (and Sausalito has a number of world-class artists, so prepare to be amazed). The kid’s zone is also a great spot.
We applaud Sausalito’s Parks and Recreation Department and the Sausalito Chamber of Commerce, who anchored the planning and production of this great new Toast to Sausalito festival.
Oh, and one last thing: please don’t tell anyone that I was the one who told you about Caledonia St. in Sausalito.
