Sausalito Gingerbread House Tour 2016
When: December 1-31, 2016
One of these days I want to make a Gingerbread House. I’ve looked up the recipes, read the articles on how to make the walls rigid but not crumbly or brittle. All I need is a free day with nothing else in my plans. In ten or fifteen years, max, I’ll check this off my list.
In the meantime, I’ll have to satisfy myself with the 2016 Sausalito Gingerbread House Tour, where you can see the work of local amateur bakers, as well as professional artists who are painters and sculptors but not bakers. Not to mention plain everyday folks like me, who unlike me actually got their act together and built a gingerbread house!
The Sausalito Gingerbread House Tour is sponsored by the Sausalito Chamber of Commerce, and it’s designed to make two groups of people feel good and share the Holiday spirit: the people who bake and assemble the houses, and the visitors who stroll through town to enjoy them during the entire month of December.
The Sausalito Chamber has introduced some fun and worthwhile features to this year’s celebration:
— The inaugural Chamber of Commerce Creative Arts Scholarship, to be awarded to a local area student pursuing his/her education in the arts.
— A fun gingerbread house scavenger hunt game for kids who go on the walking tour.
— A new “Adopt-a-Baker” event, teaming up Sausalito’s creative bakers with local businesses to help fund and provide display space for their edible artwork. One of several offices I’ve had in Sausalito was located upstairs from one of our most celebrated Sausalito bakeries, and they were really nice people. Of course, just thinking about their beautiful cakes made me gain five pounds!
Gingerbread houses will be display all across Sausalito, with the highest density of installations downtown on Bridgeway and Princess St. and along the sidewalks of the Caledonia Street neighborhood. Maps with the display location of each gingerbread house will be distributed starting in mid-November at the Sausalito Chamber of Commerce office, the Visitors Kiosk at the ferry pier, and at the shops and offices of the teams displaying the gingerbread houses.
You can check out photos of the houses and announcements about the event on their Facebook page throughout the Holidays by clicking here.
Sponsors of the event include Mollie Stones, Decker Bullock Sotheby’s International Realty, The Kimber Companies and Webb General Contractors.
