November, 2009 -- What are the best restaurants in Sausalito?  Each month we survey a wide range of blogs, travel sites, online forums and ratings sites, then create this ranking of Sausalito restaurants for Breakfast and Lunch.  You can click here to see How to Read our Restaurant Charts.  Restaurants that we have reviewed are indicated with " Elephants" (our ratings symbol for breakfast and lunch-only spots).

Note: Due to the loss of our sublease and two office moves November covers 60 days of new data.  We will return to the normal monthly schedule in December.

Not Listed: The following restaurants that serve lunch, sandwiches etc. in Sausalito are not listed since we do not have sufficient survey data to include them. They will be added when we have aggregated enough responses to assign a score and rank: Bridgeway Bagel, Burger King, Golden Gate Market Deli, New Bait Shop Market and Deli, Panda Express, Starbucks (Downtown Sausalito), Starbucks (Marin City).

The leading restaurant on our list will always receive a score of 100, and all other restaurants will be scored on that curve.  February ranking positions are not reported since this is the first month we have published a separate list for lunch places.

Technical question: Do you use reviews made only in the month of the ranking, or all reviews found for your meta-ranking?

Anna, we weight reviews (and blog posts, blog comments and all other kinds of content) from this last month most highly, then gradually "age" the inputs we factor until it drops off the calculation's radar.

If "The Plain Old Food" restaurant in Sausalito has their Executive Chef go on vacation for a month and chaos breaks out in the kitchen that's dramatic enough to be noticed in the front of the house, you'd probably see a drop of several points in their score. When the Chef returned and all was made right again the score would climb back fairly fast, since the problem was only a blip.

Most restaurant score dips that we see do re-center themselves. Many jumps in score settle back to the prior level again as well.

The stories we hate to see are when a rsetaurant's score drops... and then keeps dropping. Especially if it's someplace our family has eaten for years and where we have many happy memories.
