Saylor’s Restaurant and Bar
Fast Forward SummaryTM: Although Sammy Hagar has earned a lot of publicity for Saylor’s (one of his favorite local spots — see video below) this place is popular with locals and has remained off the radar for many visitors due to its location just north of the Caledonia St. restaurant cluster. “Saylor’s” has been a name associated with restaurants in Sausalito for over fifteen years, despite a move from a harbor-side grill to a Bridgeway brick building. Like breakfast-lunch spot Anchorage 5, Saylor’s has two distinct sides to its menu: American (with a generous pasta section) and Mexican. They have added the headline “A Little Piece of Cabo in Marin,” and that’s an accurate description in many ways.
If you come here more than a couple of times they will start to treat you as a “regular,” something I always appreciate. The menu combines the best dishes from the two restaurants Sean Saylor ran before a landlord dispute closed the popular grill called “Saylor’s Landing.” They took the Saylor’s Landing menu, moved it to nearby Mexican restaurant “Saylor’s South of the Border,” kept the best of the Mexican dishes and the new Saylor’s Restaurant and Bar was born.
These guys are very serious experts on tequila (as Sammy Hagar discusses in the video below), so if that’s your special drink this is a great place. Saylor’s has not drawn a lot of attention on the Internet, but the local Sausalito community — from musicians to business people to politicians — represents many of the regulars. In nice weather their secluded back patio is a great place for lunch.
