Neighborhood:  Caledonia St. (New Town).  Website is here, for reservations click here.  An article about their head chef winning the international sushi competition is here.

Insiders Tip:  After 5:00 PM the parking lot behind the building is free.  You enter off of Pine St. behind the Marin Theatre.  Pine St. there is one-way and comes down the hill towards Bridgeway so you’ll have to go around the block via Johnson or Turney from Bridgeway to gwet there.

Insiders Tip:  If their parking lot is full, check out our special page on Parking Near Caledonia St. Without Getting a Ticket.  It explains how to avoid the no-parking zones that catch some visitors by surprise.

Sushi Ran

Fast Forward SummaryTM:  This super-popular sushi place, just north of downtown Sausalito, draws a faithful clientele of regular customers from San Francisco and from points north.  Some people drive a long ways to get here, but it’s also only five blocks from the Sausalito Ferry pier.  Not cheap, but very good.  Patio seating in nice weather.  Make sure to get a reservation to avoid a long wait.  The satellite bar across the walkway from the main seating area has a more narrow  selection than the main dining room.

Sushi Ran: The Details

This restaurant, situated away from the Bay and downtown in an area that caters to local residents, does not have the big views or the large dining rooms of the downtown destinations, but it does have a reputation among foodies that draws a big audience from both sides of San Francisco Bay.  Service has been excellent on my visits.

I strongly recommend getting reservations here.  During dinner especially you can have a long wait if you just decide to drop by.

The restaurant and satellite bar (which has a more restricted menu) are on either side of a passageway mid-block on the uphill side of Caledonia St. near the movie theatre.  The wooden, Japanese style architecture provides an appropriate ambience for diners.

Google Map Instructions:  Use the “+” and “-” buttons to zoom in and out, the arrow keys to scroll the map, and the SAT button to see the satellite view.
