Good News for Sausalito's Economy: Blue & Gold Adds Two Ferries to Daily Schedule
Like all California cities, Sausalito is strapped for tax revenue this year because of the recession, not to mention the State's budget problems. The downtown retail corridor in particular is highly dependent on visitors drawn by Sausalito's beauty and unique personality. (If only someone would describe me in the same words!)
Many downtown merchants have been watching the tea leaves — or perhaps the bike racks — to see how the recession would affect the number of visitors this year.
Last month we reported that Blue and Gold Fleet had added an extra afternoon ferry earlier than usual, a sign that visitor traffic was strong despite the economy.
Now Blue and Gold have announced their summer schedule, adding two more afternoon crossings to serve visitors from San Francisco, especially the hundreds who rent bikes. Between Golden Gate Ferry and Blue & Gold Fleet there are now five departures from Sausalito between 4:30 and 9:00 PM Monday through Thursday, and six departures during those hours Friday through Sunday.
We'll keep you posted on how the summer business climate evolves in Sausalito, but it's great to be reporting encouraging news.
