The Bay Model Visitors Center in Sausalito will be hosting the Open House and discussion for several Sausalito city projects. Visitors are welcome from 4:30 PM to 6:30 PM on Tuesday, July 16, 2013. The topics that will be covered are below.

The Project Headlands Road and Trail Improvements
This discussion will involve Phase II, which started in February and will go through the end of 2013, the specifics on future delays, and past projects. It will be the last portion of the effort that is aimed toward renovating 11 miles of roads, paths, and parking lots in the Headlands.

Muir Beach is Closed for Construction
There will be news regarding the Redwood Creek Restoration at Muir Beach. A project to redesign the parking lot at Muir Beach has already started to restore Redwood Creek’s floodplain. As a result, Muir Beach access is closed until November 2013. The Muir Beach restrooms are also not open until November.

SMCSD Facility Upgrade Project at Fort Baker
This discussion will be about the improvement of the wastewater treatment plant at Fort Baker.

Muir Woods Transportation and Access Planning
The attraction of the Muir Woods National Monument is becoming well-known and transportation, access, traffic, and safety must keep up. If the Golden Gate National Recreation Area (GGNRA) does not improve these aspects, the overload of visitors will continue to become dangerous and detrimental to the Muir Woods habitat, on the basis of natural resources, endangered species, and safe parking conditions. There will be resource maps and planning discussions at Open House.

Become a National Park Service Volunteer in Marin
Ranger Sarah has an array of volunteer positions and information open to those interested in preserving the GGNRA and the National Parks.

Marin Headlands Tennessee Valley and Redwood Creek Nurseries – Grow With Us!
Don’t miss out on helping with the restoration projects along Fort Baker to Olema. Join the volunteers and staff with Marin Nurseries to cultivate 60,000 plants.

Public Transportation to Marin Headlands and Muir Woods
The MUNI Route 76 toward the Marin Headlands and the Marin Transit Route 66 toward Muir Woods need to be upgraded. NPS, SF Municipal Transportation Agency, and the Marin Transit started the Transit Effectiveness Project in November 2012 along Route 76. The project will continue for another year and a half.

Future Muir Beach Bus Stops
As the public transportation projects toward Muir Beach continue, more bus stops have become necessary, particularly the construction of a stop on Hwy 1 near Pacific Way.

Dias Ridge Trail Connector – Phase II
There will be designs for a trail along Hwy1 in Muir Beach to join the Dias Ridge Trail junction near the Golden Gate Dairy with the Redwood Creek Trail by Frank Valley Road and Hwy 1. NPS is looking for financial backers to finalize the designs and take action with the construction of the trail.

Point Reyes National Seashore – Verizon Wireless Proposed Cellular Communications Facility, Point Reyes Hill
The NPS needs public commentary for the scoping period of the NEPA review about the issues that a cell tower in the Point Reyes National Seashore near Mount Vision might raise. For instance, there is talk of environmental impacts and the possible need for different plans. Interestingly, an FAA site and Marin County Emergency antennae have already been on the site for years.
