Sausalito Gingerbread House Tour 2017
When: December 1-31, 2017
One of these days I want to make a Gingerbread House. All I need is a free day with nothing else in my plans. In ten or fifteen years, max, I’ll check this off my list. In the meantime, I’ll have to satisfy myself with the 2017 Sausalito Gingerbread House Tour.
It’s All About the Kids This Year
The Sausalito Chamber of Commerce recruited 30 kids from schools in the area who came together as a group to create decorated gingerbread houses for a number of the participating businesses. Each student-created house has a photo of its artist (or should I say architect?) with their name, age and school. Other merchants had children from their family or friends’ kids build their gingerbread houses. As much as I love seeing the masterworks from local Sausalito artists, I have to say that it’s even more charming to walk around town and see the work of local children.
If you have any doubts about Sausalito being a genuine, charming small town with nice people (as opposed to a movie set with beautiful views where no real people actually live) taking the Gingerbread House walk will lay those fears to rest.
And There Are Prizes!
Each of the participating businesses is hoping to be named the recipient of one of four awards to be bestowed: Most Creative, Most Depictive of Sausalito, and Most Traditional. All awards will be presented at the Sausalito Chamber holiday mixer on Thursday, December 14th, 5:30-7pm to be held at the Sausalito Book Passage by the bay at 100 Bay Street. Voting for People’s Choice will continue for the entire tour and be awarded in early January 2018.
Gotta Catch ’em All! Here’s Where to Find Them…
Gingerbread houses will be displayed all across Sausalito, with the highest density of installations downtown on Bridgeway and Princess St. and along the sidewalks of the Caledonia Street neighborhood. Maps with the display location of each gingerbread house will be distributed starting in mid-November at the Sausalito Chamber of Commerce office, the Visitors Kiosk at the ferry pier, and at the shops and offices of the teams displaying the gingerbread houses.
You can check out photos of the houses and announcements about the event on their Facebook page throughout the Holidays by clicking here.
