The Golden Gate Transit and Marin Transit bus services link Sausalito to San Francisco, Mill Valley, Corte Madera, Larkspur, Greenbrae,  San Rafael, San Anselmo, Fairfax, West Marin, Ignacio, Novato, Petaluma, Rohnert Park and Santa Rosa, as well as other Sonoma County locations.  There is also limited service to the East Bay in Richmond and El Cerrito.

Virtually all of the routes listed on this page have major differences as a result of the pandemic. Several were eliminated, others shortened and/or re-routed. Some of the major surviving Golden Gate Transit routes were renamed, so the 30 became the 130, etc.

If in doubt, call 511, request a live operator, and ask them for help.  A map of the Marin Transit routes serving Sausalito is here, and a map of the Golden Gate Transit routes is here.

Late night Sausalito bus service to San Francisco after the ferries stop running:  Late buses serve Mission and 1st St. in San Francisco, about five blocks from the Ferry Building.   Routes 30 and 70 run after 11:00 PM from Bridgeway (near the Ferry Pier) at El Portal for Route 30 and the Spencer Ave. bus pad on Highway 101 for Route 70.  Buses also run from SF to Sausalito until after midnight.

The Sausalito Bus Route and Bus Stop Lists

This information is available nowhere else online, and we had to go to every bus stop in Sausalito to verify it.  (If you see this data elsewhere it’s a copycat site.) We’ve organized the bus routes in two different ways, depending on how you like to research information:

Insiders Tip:  For smaller bus stops, the online schedules at the Marin Transit and Bridge District sites do NOT list every stop the bus will stop at, just major stops and hubs, due to space constraints.  You can infer the time for intermediate stops based on the scheduled times when a bus will come to regular stops.

Marin City Hub — Donahue & Terners Bus Stop (by Target)

Note:  Like many major urban bus stops in California, robberies have occasionally taken place in the area around this hub, which is the second-busiest bus hub in Marin County. In daylight with lots of people around it’s not a big issue for people walking or riding Sausalito bus routes, but the Marin County Sheriff advises passengers here to take normal urban setting precautions (especially during periods of low passenger volume), to be aware of your surroundings, and to avoid walking alone in the area at night. As with every parking lot in the state of California, make sure any valuables are well hidden in your trunk.
