Golden Gate Bridge Bike Access
The Golden Gate Bridge offers 24-hour access to bikes and bike riders on the sidewalks. Bikes are directed to the east or west sidewalk based on day and time, to avoid interference with maintenance activities and separate pedestrians and bikes when possible. At night bike riders have to “buzz through” two security gates that are monitored by video cameras. The hours of access to each sidewalk change according to the calendar based on the schedules below.
Spring – Summer – Autumn Bike Access Schedule
This schedule is in effect from March – October. You can cross from the east to west sidewalks at passageways that are under each end of the Bridge next to the parking lots.
Weekdays
East sidewalk: 5:00 AM to 3:30 PM
West sidewalk: 3:30 PM to 9:00 PM
East sidewalk: 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM via a remotely controlled security gate system. Riders ring a buzzer to enter the Bridge sidewalk. Once the officers see you they’ll open the gate so you can enter. The process is repeated to exit the Bridge sidewalk at the other end.
Weekends and Holidays
West sidewalk: 5:00 AM to 9:00 PM
East sidewalk: 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM via the security process described above.
Winter Bike Access Schedule for the Golden Gate Bridge
This schedule is in effect from November – February. You can cross from the east to west sidewalks at passageways that are under each end of the Bridge next to the parking lots.
