|#3 Overall (tied) on the OurSausalito.com Best Hotels List for Autumn, 2016|
This small, modern hotel is about a mile north of the Sausalito city limits, on the north shore of Richardson’s Bay (a branch of San Francisco Bay). If you stay here you’ll need a car to reach downtown Sausalito, or an Uber, Lyft or taxi ride each way. Right on Highway 101, so convenient for access to San Francisco. Generous rooms, big tubs, some fireplaces, and the front desk people are good at their jobs. Make sure to get a room on the Richardson’s Bay side and not one that faces 101, where freeway noise can be a big problem even with the insulated walls and windows. The hotel is an odd shape, so what faces the freeway can be open to discussion — if in doubt either get them to confirm that your room is well away from the freeway or stay somewhere else. Free (tasty) continental breakfast, high speed internet access.
Note: The majority of Sausalito’s hotels (though not The Acqua Hotel) are listed on Hotels.com, and it’s easy to compare prices there for your selected dates and see any discounts or special deals that are being offered. We frequently see prices on Hotels.com that are significantly lower than the numbers from our spot surveys. As a result, we sought them out and Hotels.com is now one of our sponsors.
Something else that people should know about the Acqua Hotel? Should someone build a place next door and call it the Velva Hotel? Disagree with any of our suggestions? Please let us know!
