Copita
Fast Forward SummaryTM: Imagine what would happen if Il Fornaio and Poggio founder Larry Mindel fell in love with the idea of bringing the seasonally-inspired Italian cooking style (which he has marketed so successfully) to Mexican cuisine.
Then imagine that he was teaming up with his friend and author / TV personality Joanne Weir, Editor at Large of Fine Cooking magazine, who is a deep expert on Mexican cuisine, tequila and all the lovely mixology that surrounds those two star-crossed sets of tastes.
OK, now imagine that the beautiful space from the now-closed Il Piccolo Teatro in Sausalito gets a once-over and is reimagined as the home of this new Mexican restaurant.
If all those things sound like a dream to you, your dream has now come true. Copita ("little cup") just opened this Spring.
They've brought in Designer Anthony Fish to create a "hip Mexico City" feel without destroying the beautiful handcrafted style of the existing space, with original art work. They have a wood-fired grill, homemade tortillas, and (like Poggio) locally sourced menu items.
