Don't Get Lost: Le Garage can be a little hard to find, in part because both Spring St. and Marinship Way start and stop at two different places in the neighborhood -- the Google Map below will help you sort it out. (This is a byproduct of the hastily developed shipyard road map after Pearl Harbor at the start of World War II -- Le Garage sits where the record was set for speed in building merchant vessels.) After you turn right onto Liberty Ship Way from Spring St., make sure you bear left (towards the Bay) in about 50 yards at the place where Liberty Ship Way forks like a wishbone -- the signs are poor but if you keep taking the turn closest to the water you'll stay on Liberty Ship Way. You'll enter the Schoonmaker Harbor parking lot after passing a long gray building on your left that has slanted 2nd floor windows. Park in the lot and walk towards the Bay. Le Garage is at the closer end of the building you just drove past, right next to the water. You can also use satellite view and zoom in close in the Google Map below and see Le Garage's exact location -- the satellite even shows the tables on the patio!
Fast Forward SummaryTM: Le Garage is The French Restaurant in Sausalito, and they do a good job of being "The" French place. If you want to order in French, this is the place to come -- all the servers who have helped us have been fluent. Their Kobe Beef burger (though it might sound like a non sequitur) is fabulous. Le Garage really does have a roll-up garage door and concrete floors in the restaurant, and in nice weather the outdoor patio is a wonderful place to dine. In fact, we can see their scores in our online surveys rise and fall with the time of year, since their Bay-side location is a strong draw during the warm months. Real French food from a real French chef (what a concept!) in a lovely harbor-view setting in the Schoonmaker office complex. On the high end in terms of price, despite the casual atmosphere. We have not yet published our full review and rating for Le Garage.
