Fast Forward SummaryTM:  Imagine what would happen if Il Fornaio and Poggio founder Larry Mindel fell in love with the idea of bringing the seasonally-inspired Italian cooking style (which he has marketed so successfully) to Mexican cuisine.

Then imagine that he was teaming up with his friend and author / TV personality Joanne Weir, Editor at Large of Fine Cooking magazine, who is a deep expert on Mexican cuisine, tequila and all the lovely mixology that surrounds those two star-crossed sets of tastes.

OK, now imagine that the beautiful space from the now-closed Il Piccolo Teatro in Sausalito gets a once-over and is reimagined as the home of this new Mexican restaurant.

If all those things sound like a dream to you, your dream has now come true.  Copita (“little cup”) just opened this Spring.

They’ve brought in Designer Anthony Fish to create a “hip Mexico City” feel without destroying the beautiful handcrafted style of the existing space, with original art work. They have a wood-fired grill, homemade tortillas, and (like Poggio) locally sourced menu items.

Something else that people should know about Copita?  Did you previously think “Tequileria” was the expression one gets on one’s face at the end of the night on Cinco de Mayo?  Disagree with any of our suggestions?  Please leave a comment below so our readers get the full story.
