Bridge Cafe

.
Insiders Tip:
The Golden Gate Bridge Cafe often gets confused with its almost-next-door neighbor at the Golden Gate Bridge, the Round House Cafe. We’ll sort out the differences for you below.

Insiders Tip: Don’t miss the exit for the Bridge Cafe! It’s located across from the gift shop at the Strauss Plaza and Visitor Center at the southern end of the Golden Gate Bridge. If you’re driving north from San Francisco, take the last off-ramp on the San Francisco side before you reach the Bridge toll plaza, or you’ll have to go all the way across the Bridge and pay a toll to come back. You could also walk across the Bridge after parking in the Vista Point parking lot at the northern end of the span.

If you’re coming south on the Golden Gate Bridge from Sausalito and Marin County, take the first right right turn after passing through the Toll Plaza, then immediately take another right to go down the ramp that leads to a tunnel under the Bridge. On the far end of the tunnel is the Strauss Plaza Visitor Center parking lot.

Golden Gate Bridge Cafe

The Bridge Cafe (originally called the “Bridge Stop” when it opened in 2012) is a modern addition to the Bridge, built in the Art Deco architectural style of 75 years ago to match its 1938-era neighbor, the Round House Cafe. It stands across Strauss Plaza from the Golden Gate Bridge gift shop and visitors center. It is a vending area and snack shop, and the staff there are very pleasant. The building was created as part of the modernization of Strauss Plaza for the Bridge’s 75th Anniversary in 2012.

It is sometimes confused online with the Round House Cafe, which lies just a few steps uphill to the right as you face the Golden Gate Bridge Cafe. The Round House was built as part of the original Golden Gate Bridge project, and opened on May 27, 1938, one year after the Bridge was completed. Today it offers a fast food style experience with light meals, snacks and coffee, and a few tables and chairs for seating. The Golden Gate Bridge Cafe, on the other hand, is more of a self-serve vending experience.
