Fred’s Coffee Shop
.
Fred’s is part of the eternal local debate, “What’s the best breakfast place, Lighthouse Cafe, Anchorage 5 or Fred’s?” Once we settle that one we’ll move on to “How do we end world hunger?”
This small coffee shop and grill draws visitors from a wide area and is often crowded, with waiting patrons spilling out onto the street. They have achieved the “Cool place that spreads by word of mouth” status in San Francisco that draws many people across the Golden Gate Bridge to come here.
.
Fred’s had communal tables inside the small dining room “before it was cool.” Some of our editors like the chance to meet new people when you’re paired up with another couple at a table for four, while others crave the opportunity for more private (and potentially romantic) conversations or for business discussions.
Of course, that very same feature is behind Fred’s being placed on the OurSausalito.com list of the best bars and restaurants in Sausalito for singles to meet new people.
There are additional tables out front on Bridgeway, which are great (albeit a little noisy) in nice weather. Service is always courteous but mistakes sometimes happen on orders when they get super busy. The food is usually very good, prices are on the low side for Sausalito, and the French Toast is a favorite.
Something else that people should know about Fred’s Coffee Shop? Think we’re missing the chance to meet famous celebrities or brooding artists because we don’t want to double up at the inside tables? Disagree with any of our suggestions? Please let us know!
