Sausalito Restaurants’ Best Items

Our Favorite Dishes at Each Sausalito Restaurant

At every restaurant there’s always “the best thing you could possibly have there.”  These are very subjective opinions from our editors, and your preferences may be COMPLETELY different so be sure to experiment to find your own “best” at each place!

Anchorage 5  (Breakfast and Lunch) — Pancakes off the breakfast grill with any kind of eggs; chorizo with eggs from the Mexican side of the menu.

Angelino  (Italian, Some Bay Views)  — Any of their house-made pastas, enjoyed at a fabulous view table in the front window.  Bonus answer: If you’re with friends from Italy the entire meal will be conducted in Italian, which isn’t all that common at Italian restaurants.

Arawan Thai  (Thai) — We’ve argued about this one and have about 5 different favorites on the menu!  Since no one is watching I’ll vote for my personal favorite, the Satay.

Aurora  (Italian)  —  As I write this two of our editors are debating whether it’s the filet mignon or the calamari steak.  We’ll let you know who wins.

Avatar’s  (Indian-Mexican Fusion, Casual, Meal price varies) — The fun process of being able to customize your order in an infinite number of ways on the spot: tuning spices, substituting ingredients and getting crazy.

Bar Bocce  (Italian)  —  Sitting on the back patio looking out at the boats and the water and eating the meatball pizza.

Bayside Cafe  (Diner)  —  Love their burgers.

Bridgeway Bagel  (Breakfast & lunch only)  —  Uh, maybe we’re boring but it’s just the Bagels & Cream Cheese, even though more “exciting” things are on the menu.

Buckeye Roadhouse  (American)  Some editors here argue for the New York steak, others for one of the entree salads.  Either way, you’re more likely to hear each other talk over your meal if you sit downstairs, especially if there are groups upstairs.

Davey Jones Deli  (Deli) — The Cuban sandwich is unique in Sausalito, and full of interesting flavors, but there are many other great options here, too.   Worth going out of your way for.

Osteria DiVino  (Italian, Music)  We love the combination of the panini with prosciutto, a glass of red wine and the great music they have most evenings.

Dario’s Pizza  (Pizza) — What we love here is that once you come in a few times they recognize you and treat you like a neighbor.  Be sure to check out their online coupons.

Farley Bar  (American; Bar for Murray Circle)  —  One of the best burgers you’ll find, served in an elegant setting with beautiful views.

Feng Nian  (Chinese)  —  Their lunch specials are a favorite with locals at northern Sausalito offices.

Fish  (Seafood, Casual, Harbor Views)  —  It’s expensive, but one editor says “The best, freshest, most flavorful fish and chips I’ve ever had.”  They don’t take credit cards, so bring cash.

Fish and Chips of Sausalito  (Fast Food) — The fish and chips are pretty darn good at this price, plus tasty new panini and other grilled items on the menu.

Fred’s Coffee Shop  (Breakfast & lunch only) — The French Toast here is legendary.  Be prepared to share a table at busy times.

Golden Gate Market (Deli)  — A secret Sausalito treat!  The two guys who usually work behind the meat counter make fabulous fresh sandwiches and are nice to visitors as they do so.  Take the sandwich half a block downhill, sit on a bench at the edge of the Bay, and enjoy!

Hamburgers  (Lunch only; flame-grilled burgers)  —  There are two parts to the joy here: after you order, you watch your organic beef patty circle through the flames on the charcoal grill, soaking up all sorts of flavor and character.  Then you take your burger to Vina del Mar Park, the Bridgeway Promenade or Gabrielson Park and eat it with a great view of the Bay!

Kitti’s Place  (Thai) — Our favorite here is a common special item but not on the regular menu and not always available: Angel Hair Rice Noodle Soup with Seafood.  Big serving, tastes more like a stew than a soup.

Lappert’s Ice Cream  (Ice Cream)  Um, how about we just say that in Hawaii or in Sausalito we love his ice cream!

Le Garage  (French, Casual, Harbor Views)  A Kobe Beef burger may sound like a non sequiter, but to us c’est magnifique. If any of our editors spoke French we could order everything without uttering a word of English, since the staff are all bilingual.  (Just bring a sweater if it’s a cool day!)

Lighthouse Diner  (Breakfast & lunch only)  O Lighthouse pancakes, how do I love thee?  One time I brought a Danish friend to this Danish diner, which is inviting disaster many places.  He and the staff proceeded to speak Danish together and he declared the food authentic.

Mollie Stone’s (Deli)  If you do the math, you can have a Priosciutto di Parma sandwich with Parmesan cheese here for what you’d pay for turkey and cheddar at many restaurants.  And if you’ve never had Prosciutto di Parma (about $30 per pound if you buy it at the deli) you’re in for a treat!

Murray Circle  (American, Some Bay Views)  Confession time:  We’ll pass on the prix fixe menu here sometimes in favor of their grass-fed beef burger.  Have you lost respect for us after this admission?

Napa Valley Burger Co.  —

Outback Steakhouse  (Steakhouse)  It’s the most expensive item on the menu, but this is one of thye few places locally where you can get king crab legs, and the sereving is agood sized portion.

Poggio Trattoria  (Italian)

Salito’s Crab House (Seafood, Bay Views)   Last time we were here the Fish and Chips (which uses different fish based on the catch of the day) was very fresh and moist.

Salsalito Taco Shop  (Mexican)

Sartaj India Cafe  (Indian)

Sausalito Bakery and Cafe  (Breakfast & lunch only)

Sausalito Gourmet Deli (Deli)

Sausalito Seahorse  (Italian)

Saylor’s (American & Mexican)  — Just about anything tastes good on a nice day on their private back patio, which feels more like a weekend escape spot than a business lunch location.

Scoma’s Sausalito  (Italian, Views)

Spinnaker Restaurant  (Seafood, Views)

Starbucks (Marin City)  (Coffee and snacks)

Sushi Ran  (Sushi, Meal price varies)

Sweet Ginger (Sushi)

Taste of Rome  (Italian, Music, Free Wi-fi)

Taste of the Himalayas  (Himalayan)  NEW

Tommy’s Wok (Chinese)  —  Although it’s a side dish, all of their fried rice dishes have more meat and more flavor than we’ve tasted anywhere else in Marin County.

Trident  (Seafood, Bay Views)

Venice Gourmet Deli  (Deli) — The Italian House Special Sandwich on a sourdough roll is a Sausalito tradition that goes back many years.

Venice Pizzeria (was Giovanni’s)  (Pizza)  — The pizza will taste especially good if you sit at one of their outside tables with fabulous views of the Bay.
